Hanging Coffins of Sagada, Philippines

I’m a history buff so visiting the Hanging Coffins of Sagada really intrigued me. To finally see it above my head was quite a site to behold. To know that there are people are inside the coffins really boggles my mind. Our tour guide gave us so much information about the “Mountain People” the Igorot. The reason why the coffin was set up high in the mountain is so that they departed can feel closer to heaven. So the higher the coffin, the more valued the deceased was.

Fun fact:

  1. The last hanging coffin was in 2010.
  2. The Igorot were head hunters in the past which they used headhunting as sport against their enemies

Ticket Price: P20
