Burgers With A Twist At Buns & Bros

I’m a burger junkie so my love for burgers came all the way from Arizona to Manila. I was looking for a burger joint similar to In-N-Out and I found Buns & Bros in the heart of Makati. I had high expectations for this so I was hella excited for this burger.
Buns & Bros can be found in Ayala North Exchange Mall. The place is small but has enough tables and chairs for everyone. I was able to meet the Founder “Mr. Inigo Dulay” who gave a brief history of the branch. He came up with the concept after getting injured during a CrossFit competition and decided to take his talents to his first love: cooking. He’s also from California and tried different burgers from different parts of the world which include Japan and New York.

He wanted to try something different. Instead of making the patty or sauce different; he decided to make the bun different. The buns texture and even color can be changed. This means that the customer will not enjoy only the burger patty but the bun as well. I asked him on how he came up with the name Buns & Bros. He came up with the name for two reasons. One reason is that the buns concept and the second that he got his love for cooking from his older brother who is based as a chef in Australia thus the name Buns & Bros was born.
It’s time to dig in and try out these awesome burgers and I had really high expectations!

The food reminds me of the food back in California and the branch has this laid back SoCal style that makes you feel that you’re next to the beach. The branch offers not only burgers but they also got their sides and chick bits. What I find intriguing and almost unheard of in a burger is that they also offer donuts and rice meals! I can’t forget the drinks. They offer shakes, sodas, and beer!

The Bomb: One of their signature burgers. Roasted with sesame bu. homemade jalapeno cheddar cheese, jalapeno ranch sauce. This burger like the name says. It’s the bomb! Once you bite it, you can actually taste the cheese and sauce mashing into together. It wasn’t too greasy and it tasted just about right. HOT TIP: you can make it spicier with extra jalapeno slices. You just gotta add P30. Rate: 9/10
The Player: The perfect meal for all you players out there. Not that I’m saying that I’m a player but it definitely plays with your taste buds. I like this burger because it’s double the patty and double the cheese! Similar to the “Double Double” in In-N-Out. Rate: 8/10
The Fiesty Chick: This burger is most definitely the fiesty one! Roasted black sesame bun, boneless fried chicken, Louisiana jalapeno cheddar glaze, fried onions, pickles, and ranch sauce! This is a must-try for all the chicken lovers out there. I loved the onions that go with the chicken. Rate: 8/10

The sides are important when it comes to your burger and this place has the perfect sides for their burgers. They got the following:
- Fries – P60
- Garlic Peta Fries – P120
- Onion Strings – P85
- Half & Half – P95
- Sweet Potato Crisps – P60
Nasty Fries – Now, these are the fries that I recommend for all your buns! It’s similar to “Animal Fries”. It has melted cheese, grilled onions, pickles and the nasty sauce (whatever that is). Once I bit into it, it reminded me of home. The stickiness of the melted cheese that goes with the fries gave me real throwback. Not saying it’s as good at the Animal Fries but its close! You have to eat this when it’s hot and ready otherwise it won’t taste just as good once it gets close. Rate: 9/10

Donut Bites: Just like the name says. It bites you back and makes you want to come back for more. Unlike other donut places, these are made fresh! Don’t believe me? You can actually watch it being done at the branch so it’s hella fresh!
- Classic Bites: per piece (P18), make it a party (P180)
- Premium Bites: a combo of 4 classic & 4 premium bites. per price (P24), make it a party (P240)
- Assorted Bites: a combo of 5 pcs classics, 5pcs premium doughnuts

The Lava Cake is the perfect dessert after all those burgers. It almost got me into a food coma.

What I recommend: I have to recommend the Boss and the Nasty Fries. This meal was my favorite from all the burgers that I tried. The Boss has the black beer bun, homemade smoked bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, and hickory barbeque sauce. I loved the sauce here! It just perfect with the bacon and onions. Rate: 10/10
