Historia Culinaria y Cultura Heritage Festival – Taal, Batangas 2019

It’s been since I visited Batangas but this time I am on my way to learn more about Filipino art and culture. Batangas has many heroes and it also has a deep history. It’s already known for many of its beaches which is close to getting away from the hustle and bustle of Manila.

I was invited to the Historia Culinaria y Cultura Heritage Festival. Casa Historia Society for the Preservation of Philippine Historic Architecture. To restore historical and unique abodes throughout the country making them viable and functional to adapt to modern lifestyles without sacrificing their original architecture.

The artist is fascinated by death. I believe this was made out of a human skull

I visited the Sining Sa Taal. A group exhibit that was held at the Tampuhan Cafe Gallery, Galleria Taal and Villa Tortuga. It featured these artists: Randy Roa, Jose Alain Austrai, Arlene Barbaza, Binggoy De Ocampo, Herminio Tan, Oliver Roax, Robelyn Canto and Lawton Ladeo,

Some of the artists work that are displayed in the gallery are inmates from the Tagaytay City Jail. Many of the inmates do not have enough to pay for their small petty crimes so they turn to art. The artworks displayed at the gallery are for sale. The artworks that are sold, the money not only got to artist but to other prisoners as well so they can have a better life in prison.

Another artwork with a human skull. This one has wings so I believe that the dead person is going to heaven.

Other artworks were displayed at Galleria Taal and Villa Tortuga during this two day event. The galleries are basically old homes some of them made in 1870s which are still standing in Taal. Some of them are abandoned by the owners so they can seek greener pastures abroad or moved to Manila. The houses are now being renovated and preserved to add more history to Taal, Batangas. The area is basically like a mini Vegan and it’s 2 hours away from Manila.
